Self-belief


I’ve been thinking about self-belief a lot this week.


I identified it as a block for myself with my own coach. I have such clarity on my vision but I have been feeling blocked for weeks. Low energy, lethargic, distracted. I knew something was going on but I couldn’t pin point it. It was through the great questioning of my coach that I was able to identify the block as a lack of belief in myself to reach that vision.


That lack of belief had clouded the path and my sub-conscious was doing a great job of stopping me from getting that clarity.


Through that session with my coach I was able to release that unhelpful belief. To let go of the limitation and step in to a new belief that serves me better. The following day I sat down and did some of the best creative planning work I’ve done in months. I feel buoyed up and energised and focussed again.


Why am I telling you this? Because that limitation around my own belief was inside my head and only I could shift it. I’ve been thinking a lot about what creates self-belief. And my conclusion is that it can only come from ourselves. It can only come from within. It comes from shifting those limiting beliefs that we have built up over time and to continue to shift them as they pop up in new situations.


No one can do it for us. No one can fill us up with self-belief. If we are seeking that belief, that confirmation that we are good enough, from others, we are trying to fill a leaky bucket. It will drip or flow out depending on the size of that hole but it will drain away eventually. And we have to keep filling it up, keep seeking it, never truly knowing it for ourselves.

Do you seek praise to fill up your self-belief bucket? What happens if the praise doesn’t come? What might you be able to do to fix the hole in that bucket? What would you need to believe about yourself? What beliefs might you need to let go of or shift to get that bucket watertight?


Self-belief isn’t something anyone can give to you or take from you. It is within you. Are you ready to claim it?
